Trump’s fresh attacks on Georgia election workers could land him in legal trouble, expert says

According to one expert, former president Donald Trump’s recent assaults on a Georgia poll worker might yet get him into further legal problems.
Ruby Freeman, a Georgia politician who has been the target of Mr. Trump’s repeated attacks since the 2020 election, has been the target of conspiracy theories fueled by the former president’s social media network, Truth Social.

In his most recent postings, Mr Trump made a number of accusations and said that her testimony to the House Select Committee looking into the Capitol disturbance had “contradictions.”

While Mr Trump has frequently targeted Black women, including Ms. Freeman and her daughter Shaye Mose, in the past, his postings this time may have more serious repercussions, according to Lisa Rubin, a legal expert for MSNBC.

Ms. Rubin claimed on Twitter that Mr. Trump no longer had presidential protection and may thus be sued for defamation by Ms. Freeman. Several conservatives are the targets of cases Ms. Freeman has already filed.

“Trump was still in office when he last pursued Freeman. And therefore, had she filed a defamation lawsuit against him, he could have asserted the same defence that he did in response to Carroll’s first allegations, which is that as POTUS, I’m immune to tort cases. It’s still up for debate whether that defence will hold up,” Ms. Rubin commented in a Twitter thread.

According to the tweet, Mr. Dubose stated that “nobody, not even a past president, has a right to willfully distribute hurtful, libellous lies about other people.”

Even though the allegations against Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss have repeatedly been shown to be baseless, they have nonetheless disrupted the lives of my clients and pose a threat to their safety.

Around midnight on January 2, Mr. Trump launched his most recent attack on Truth Social, alleging that Ms. Freeman’s testimony had “contradictions.” He also published a video of the ladies doing their duties, suggesting that they were committing electoral crimes.

“Wow! Has anyone noticed the ‘contradictions’ in Ruby Freeman’s sworn testimony? He composed. “This is now ‘BIG STUFF,’ Take a look at what the Cobb County police body cameras recorded on January 4, 2021. Now things become pretty awful.

Second and third posts were subsequently made to the platform by Mr. Trump, who claimed that the 2020 election was “ALL A FRAUD” and charged Ms. Freeman with electoral crimes.

In the third post, he posed the question, “What will the Great State of Georgia do with the Ruby Freeman MESS?” and asserted that he was fighting against “the horrors and deceit of the Radical Left monsters who want to see America perish.”
